Howard John Clinebell was born in Springfield, Illinois on June 3, 1922 to Howard J. and Clem (Whittenberg) Clinebell. He graduated from DePauw University in 1944, and received his B.D. from Garrett Theological Seminary in 1947. After receiving a Certificate in Applied Psychiatry for the Ministry from the William A. White Institute of Psychiatry in 1949, Clinebell pursued graduate studies at Columbia University. He completed his Ph.D. in 1954. Clinebell was a Methodist m...
